Day 15 of Blogmas: The 12 Days of Christmas Tag

I’ve been looking for all of the Christmas tags, and saw this one on alittlebutalot and decided to give it a go – especially as I don’t think I’ve done this one before! I’m mostly going to base my answers on books read in 2021, otherwise we could be here all day!

ON THE FIRST DAY OF CHRISTMAS, MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME: A PARTRIDGE IN A PEAR TREE.

The partridge stood alone in the pear tree. What is your favourite stand alone?

I have read a lot of good stand alones this year, but I’m going to go with My Dark Vanessa by Kate Elizabeth Russell as I thought this was an incredible book.

ON THE SECOND DAY OF CHRISTMAS, MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME: TWO TURTLE DOVES.

Love is in the air! Who is your one true pairing?

Ooh, I really liked the relationship between Charlie and Brian in Fat Chance, Charlie Vega by Crystal Maldonado!

ON THE THIRD DAY OF CHRISTMAS, MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME: THREE FRENCH HENS.

In the spirit of threes, what is the best trilogy you have read?

I did read a trilogy in 2021 but it wasn’t my favourite, so I’m going to go for an oldie, which is The Hunger Games trilogy by Suzanne Collins. I am desperate to re-read at some point!

ON THE FOURTH DAY OF CHRISTMAS, MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME: FOUR CALLING BIRDS.

Since series usually consist of four or more books, what is your favourite series?

I don’t read many series, but one of my favourites is the Heartstopper series by Alice Oseman. I love reading (and re-reading) these and always look forward to the next one!

ON THE FIFTH DAY OF CHRISTMAS, MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME: FIVE GOLDEN RINGS.

One ring to rule them all! Who is your Favourite Villain/Antagonist?

The villain in Return to Roar by Jenny McLachlan is a scarecrow which totally creeps me out – he’s not my favourite villain but he’s one of the scariest!

ON THE SIXTH DAY OF CHRISTMAS, MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME: SIX GEESE A LAYING.

Creation is a beautiful thing. What is your favourite world/world-building?

I love love LOVE the world of Nevermoor – I still cannot deal with how much I adored the magical setting of this book.

ON THE SEVENTH DAY OF CHRISTMAS, MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME: SEVEN SWANS A SWIMMING.

Who needs seven swans when all it takes is one good animal sidekick? Who’s your favourite animal sidekick?

Can I answer with the same book as the previous question? Fenestra (a giant talking cat) is one of my favourite characters in Nevermoor: The Trials of Morrigan Crow by Jessica Townsend.

ON THE EIGHTH DAY OF CHRISTMAS, MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME: EIGHT MAIDS A MILKING.

Milk is so 18th century. Which book or series takes beverages/food to a whole new level?

Hungry by Grace Dent is all about food and how it ties in with her memories from her childhood, which I thought was fantastic.

ON THE NINTH DAY OF CHRISTMAS MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME: NINE LADIES DANCING.

Dancing is just one skill of a Lady! Who is your favourite kickass female lead?

Oh there are so many great female lead characters, but one of my favourites from 2021 is Liz from You Should See Me in a Crown by Leah Johnson. She is hardworking and confident and knows what she wants, and I thought she was brilliant.

ON THE TENTH DAY OF CHRISTMAS MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME: TEN LORDS A LEAPING.

How about your favourite leading lad?

I thought that Harrison from The Highland Falcon Thief by M.G. Leonard and Sam Sedgman was another great leading character.

ON THE ELEVENTH DAY OF CHRISTMAS MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME: ELEVEN PIPES PIPING.

What is your favourite book or bookish thing with musical influence? (It can be about music, reference music a lot etc.)

I adore Daisy Jones and the Six by Taylor Jenkins-Reid which was a read from last year and one of my favourites!

ON THE TWELFTH DAY OF CHRISTMAS MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME: 12 DRUMMERS DRUMMING.

Drum roll please…what is your favourite read of this year?

My favourite read of the year so far in 2021 is The Secret History by Donna Tartt
